While doing research for my novel, I wanted to get an image in my head of what fools and jesters looked like. To my surprise, when I started looking for images, the most frequent ones that came up were the tarot card fools. I became obsessed. These were my favorites from the Silicon Dawn Tarot. Egypt Urnash does amazing work, and someday I will own one of her tarot decks. I am determined.
One of my favorite features is that she will have three fool cards eventually (crone, mother and maiden) and that the fool not only shows up as the Hermit card (with one of her cameras missing…), but also throughout the deck. The peace pipe she’s smoking in the Four of Swords shows up in her hand in the Nine of Wands, and her dog is consoling (?) her in the Ten of Wands. I’m not sure Egypt intended for her to be in the Eight of Swords, but I like to think she’s involved in that poker game somehow…

I finally did it. The Fool is mine. I bought it from Egypt Urnash and it’s now hanging in my office to both inspire and ridicule me. I wish I could have afforded to buy a whole lot more of them, but this will have to do for now.
